Maharashtra Mandal Munich eV, formed in 2016, is leading Maharashtra Mandal in central Europe. The mandal is established with the aim to preserve and spread the rich ‘Marathi’ heritage and culture here in Germany. MMM, as it is popularly known, boasts of more than 150 registered members, mainly in and around city of Munich.
With the enthusiastic members and proactive program committee the MMM arranges around the year colorful cultural events, covering all important Marathi festivals like Sankrant, Padawa, Ganapati, Diwali, Kojagiri and Maharashtra Day in all grandeur that they deserve. MMM also spearheads many initiatives for community at large like library, Marathi Film Festival, ‘Diwali Ank’, and soon to be started initiative for youth – ‘May Marathi – Culture Beyond Borders’.
Through celebration of these festivals and other events, MMM provides a professional platform for local community artist and children. It also provides chance for well known Maharashtrian artists from various fields of music, theatre, poetry, literature to perform here on Central European platform. Many Marathi celebrities like Shridhar Phadke, Anand Bhate, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Padmaja Jogalekar, Saleel Kulkarni, Mrunmayee Deshpande have been guests of our program.
MMM works closely with office of Consul General Of India in Munich, and takes active participation in CGI initiatives like State Day, Yoga Day etc.
Informally MMM, started in 2005, when the Marathi youth, by that time decided to make Germany a new home, came together and started thinking of doing cultural programs. This started series of cultural events, though infrequent, till 2014. Then a serious thought was given to formalize the organization and Maharashtra Mandal Munich was formed officially. The mandal got registered as non-profit organization in 2016 and adopted present structure EC Committee 2019
